Rose Margaret McClanahan is a teacher and writer from Melrose, Minnesota. She teaches Middle School English Language Arts and Social Studies at St. John Vianney Academy in Long Prairie and St. Robert Bellarmine Academy in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

539091_10200321100732687_796999933_nRose will receive her B.A. in English Literature with a Minor in History from St. Cloud State University in Spring, 2016. She is  a first generation college student, and will be the first of her eight siblings to graduate from college.

Education is her chosen vocation, but choosing between education and nursing was difficult. Rose has three years of experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant and Home Health Aide, working with the elderly in nursing homes and private residences. The most important part of her job was not the physical care she provides for her clients, but the spiritual joy she brings into their lives through companionship and compassion.

In addition to teaching and nursing, Rose is an avid reader and writer. She reads everything from classics to the New York Times. Her favorite genre is historical fiction, and she uses it whenever possible to integrate the History and English curricula. She wrote her senior thesis on the relationship between educational philosophy and the English Language Arts Common Core Standards, and she would like to continue her research in educational philosophy and its effect on the current state of public education. She is currently working on an anthology of stories of strong Christian women who followed vocations outside of the home, maintaining their faith while serving in public leadership roles.
